Day Three Hocking Hills

There are a lot of photos this day.  We were busy!  We started out with a beautiful hike that quickly became challenging but I kept up!  We found a place to rock climb and repel but it wasn't easy to get to.  We started off early in the morning.

Unfortunately the pictures do not reflect how steep these trails were.  We were climbing up the cliff.

Nestle was so excited and was running up and down the trail.  She is such a sweet dog.  She would run to the front of us then run back down to where I was at as if to say "come on, you can do it, see" and then would run to the front again and then back to me again.

Taking a break.

After a few hours of hiking Nestle slammed her knee on a boulder as she was running.  After that she had a hard time walking on it so we sat down on the side of the mountain and ate lunch.  I even made a peanut butter sandwich for her.  She thought she was a princess until I made Matt carry her back down the side of the mountain.  She kept looking back at me and giving me these looks to let me know that her pride was hurt too.  After a few hours though she was up and running again!  Tough puppy.  Come to find out though that if we had made it to the climbing areas we wouldn't of been able to climb anyway.  Matt had left some of his equipment behind.  He was so excited at the prospect of real climbing that even though he checked all his equipment twice he overlooked the belaying device.  I was pretty adamant that he was carrying Nestle down and his focus needed to be her that I braved wearing the big backpack with everything in it.  It was pretty heavy.  At one point I had to crawl though an opening on my hands and knees.  Half way though I had to stop and start laughing.  It was pretty funny.  I wanted to take a picture but with the weight of the back pack I couldn't do anything but laugh!  At the end of the tunnel I had to grab some of the tree roots that were on the side of the rock and pull myself up.  I don't know how Matt wore that thing!

On the way back to camp we decided to stop at the fire tower.  That thing was 80 feet high!  Matt and the boys had a good time scaling it while I stayed at the base with Nestle.  Neither one of us thought the view was going to be worth climbing all those stairs!  Matt took the camera and took these photos.

After this Nestle was up and running again so we decided to take the trail off to the side of the fire tower.  After a mile and a half we found ourselves back at Ash Cave.  Very pretty and not as exhausting as the morning hike.   I played with the settings and the zoom on the camera again.

Michael and Nathan had fun doing Aztec trails in the sand.

Afterwards we went back to camp and I decided that it was time for my birthday meal.  I know it was the day before my birthday but it was good!  I had blackbean burgers, potato wedges, corn on the cob, cucumbers.  Yum!  Then for dessert I made cherry pies with my pie iron that Memaw gave me for my birthday.  Yum!  Pictures not so good but they tasted great!   I remembered to take a picture right before I finished it!  All of this I did on a campfire.  Man, I'm good!
