Like I mentioned in the previous post that the day started out relaxing but then we decided that we could hike from the Falls to Old Man's Cave. It was only 3 miles from one to the other and since it was early enough into the day it shouldn't be too bad. Oh goodness! Some of the hike was pretty tough. I really wish I would of thought about taking more pictures but there were times I really thought we had made a mistake. The boys loved it though and it took us 3 hours to make the hike. When we got to Old Man's Cave I had Matt hike back to the Falls to retrieve the car. I wasn't going to do that again! And Nestle, she wore herself out. She was really having fun but when we got to our destination she was so happy to chew on ice. It took Matt a little over 30 minutes to do the hike back by himself. He did it quicker than he originally thought he could.
Many of our paths looked like this. I have to admit that I was very happy with myself when we got to the end. The boys were bouncing all over the place but this terrain let me know just how out of shape I am. I'm going to have to change that before we go back!
I was happy when the boys would find a boulder they needed to conquer! That gave me a rest.
Matt said this was a termite mound. I didn't get close enough to find out! Its on top of the hollowed out log behind a few limbs.
Finally a straight path! It didn't stay easy for too long.
At the end we had to climb approximately 90 feet of steep stairs to get to the Visitor's Center of Old Man's Cave. I didn't take a picture. Unfortunately I was so focused on getting to a restroom that nothing else entered my mind! Nestle enjoyed chewing on her ice.
