Held Hostage by a Rhino!

Today has been an interesting day.  We started out by going to the Wilds for the homeschool day.  It was so much fun!  The boys got to take turns sitting up by the driver.  Even though it was raining we were in a really nice bus that leaked everywhere.  We had our bestest friends with us and our driver was so sweet and full of really fun information about all the animals we were seeing.
And I love my camera that Memaw and Grandpa gave me.  These camels were really far off and hard to see but the boys had my fathers binoculars so they were able to see the animals from afar with ease and the zoom on my camera enabled me to get some really great photos!
and during the tour we found out that Nathan is part camel!  As the driver/guide was explaining to us how the camels can close their nose all of a sudden Nathan pipes up "I can do it too!" and sure enough he can!  We have found his talent!
These Arabian donkeys were so funny.  When we came to a stop to check them out they decided to all back up to the bus and push on the bus with their butts!  You can thank me now.  I didn't take a picture even though the boys were begging me to.  A donkey butt on the glass of a bus is not a pretty sight.
taking his seat at the front of the bus and helping out the driver/guide.

These are the criminals!  These rhinos blocked the road and held us hostage until the park keepers could make it with a snack and try and lure them off the road and away from the gates!  The girl rhino knew exactly what she was doing to!

she wouldn't let anyone come or go until she saw the snack bucket!  It had oats and honey in it.  We later found out that she is pregnant and must be going through some food cravings because she is getting really pushy for the snacks and finding new ways to get what she wants!  She held us hostage for almost 40 minutes!
There she goes to get her snacks.  We hurried up and got out of there before she thought about doing it again!
I just love cheetah!  She is so beautiful.  We were able to get out and walk here for a few moments.  Again, I love the zoom on my camera!

Today was the first day that the giraffes have come outside this year.  We were told that they keep them inside on heated concrete until the ground is a constant 55 degrees or more.  Here is a baby that will be going to our zoo soon.  We'll get to see him again!
This little guy had all the moms in the room tearing up.  He just recently was taken away from his mom and he's going through a bit of a depression.  We were there to try and coax him to get up and eat.  He did eat some of the apple slices that we tossed towards him but you can tell this animal is very sad.  When asked what the boys thought of the baby rhino they were all sad for him and felt it was very mean to separate him from his mom.  The keeper tried to explain to the boys that these are near extinct animals and they are hopeful to breed them and have lots of babies and bring this species back but my boys weren't buying into it.
After walking outside I was approached by this sweet rhino boy.  He's getting ready to head to another conservation park for breeding.  When the kids saw me scratching his side they all came up running to give him a good scratch too.  I have to admit that I've never met such a friendly rhino before.  Not that I've ever met a rhino before and I was just a bit nervous!

I just love the horns on these African beauties.
Now its time to get some sleep for tomorrow we go to the Science Museum for a homeschool National Geographic event.  So exciting!
